Best prop shop to have work a new HILL prop

Stock hill props...strong, heavy, reasonably slow, need help...

Who do you all use if you know the end result you want and go buy a new hill as a core to immediately start working on? I have a few prop guys I use myself, but I have never asked one of them to cut that much off a prop. I always send them props that are light to begin with and close to what I want. Is there out there somewhere who loves butchering Hill props to make them into something cool?

I think Bblades are Hills that have been worked and balanced. But not necessarily cut way down. I have no inside info, just based on owning a few of each and comparing.

Other than that, I'd guess any good shop can thin one way down to be closer to a labbed Merc ET. I know I had one Hill worked on by FJ Prop, and was told it wasn't possible to get some of the curve in the blade a true ET had. I've had pretty good luck with Hills if the hull wasn't super light. Old Seebold Ski Eagle modvp I had did best with a stock 4 blade Hill Eagle compared to anything I tried including true Merc ET and Spinelli junk that broke apart. The Hills are about 1/4 inch larger diameter and more blade area that Merc ETs and the heavier hull (compared to STV, Mirage) seemed to need the larger prop. The small bladed spinelli wouldn't hook up. Had to go up 4 inches in pitch. But it flung a blade within 30 minutes so that didn't really work either.

I like choppers on my mirage. I've tried almost all of them. I ran a stock 28 and stock 30 chopper from hill...they didn't run much different numbers than the stock merc choppers despite them being almost twice the weight...so I wouldn't mind taking a 30p hill chopper or Eagle and sending to a shop to get thinned and balanced. Maybe cupped a little. I have read on some thread here about a shop cutting down the heavy hill chopper to a ET copy style blade but I don't know who that was. I agree, you can't get a true lightning ET, but you can get close. I have a donor or two that I've been trying to sell and noone wants...so I might as well send em off to get worked. Doubt anyone can make them perform worse even if they just take a few lbs off.

I am a Signature Propeller dealer and always work them prior to sending them off to customers.. What prop are you referring to in there line of props ?

instead of cutting the chopper i'd just go with an eagle 3 and go from there.. once they are balanced and blueprinted they are a great prop and pretty reliable.

I'll clarify, I've only run the Hill Eagle 4. Haven't tried a Hill Chopper or anything else from Hill other than the 5 blade thru hub clevers when I had my 25 Liberator. The Hill Eagle 4 looks very similar to the bblades blasters. I do have a very nice mazco re4 for sale which seems a lot like a merc chopper. Pretty thin.

Those are good props and you can pick up some good speed and acceleration when they are all done up

I have a hill drag 4 30p that runs hard on my boat. Accelerates like a 27 or 28 p and gets to 100 in a hurry...then it just hits a wall. More rpms and it doesn't go much faster. If I'm trying to keep up with others through the turns in the delta its a good prop. So is my 26 4 blade by performance propellers that has some stupid rake, that one pulls like the Hill drag 4 but spins too much rpm up top for me to stay sustained over 100. I had it to 110 but I was spinning too many rpms.

The only reason I would like to work a chopper is because a real thin 28 chopper is the fastest prop I have ever run on my boat. 116 mph and I didn't even have the boat set up as good as I do now. Since that prop cracked I have not been able to find one as fast. Closest thing I have found is a 30 Lightning ET, but its not even as fast.

I ran a stock Hill 30p chopper to 109. I have that prop and I would like to send it out to have it cut down to something better. Or I would sell it and buy an eagle 3 and start with that...but I don't have anyone who needs the 30 chopper.

ive run all the choppers and prefer the small ears. But when it comes to choppers my Hoss is in a league of its own. It holds so well it makes me a far better driver. I’ve run my fastest with it too although with the same engine config it did run slower than a modded SRX 29 I have. That prop really flies but it’s hairy compared to the hoss, or a small ear. I haven’t run a true lightning et yet

I've been fortunate enough to come across few 4 blade Merc ET's. Two of which are lab finish by merc. 2 pro finish. I like the smoothness of the 4 blades and they run plenty fast for me on the top end. Maybe a 3 blade would be a little faster but I'm more of an 85mph cruiser, not worried with absolute top speed. Punch it to 100 plus now and then. But mainly just ride. They are my favorites and are very tough to find at this point. Have a 28 and 30 lab. 26 and 30 pro. I'd sell the 26 as I never use it. True merc ET 4 blade.

An aspect of the 4 blades I do not care for is the turning, which we do a lot of out here. They seem to make the steering so much stiffer to turn and my boat doesn't glide through the turns like it does with any 3 blade. It feels like its turning way too much or its not turning at all. No in between. I have a 32 proET I have not run yet, but I think it will be too much for my motor. Especially with the 1.75 ratio I am running right now.

It would be most efficient to start with a new eagle 3 and modify that... Otherwise there is a lot of labor in cutting a chopper into an ET cut..

Let me take a closer look at it and follow up. I'll be at my lake cottage weekend after Christmas. I just want to check condition more closely. I'm not sure if I've had it out of the box since I bought it used.
