    2.5 260 current draw?

What do most 2.5 260 motors draw in amps at various RPMs. Always wondered about this.

    Best wishes, Carter Powell

Curious as well. I’ll be running a jack, trim, some gauges and that’s it. Hoping the battery holds up

Maybe I am misunderstanding the question. The motors themselves don't draw many amps at all. EFI uses a little more than carbs. And Optimax probably uses a little more than EFI. But they produce their own spark to run on separate from the charging system. They generate amps to charge the batteries to power all the electronics in the boat. A 9-amp system will power a basic boat, starter, transom, tilt and basic gauges, no problem. They also use the least amount of horsepower to make them work. The higher amp systems were added to power all the additional electronics in the boats. Fish finders, Radars and spotlights etc. The more electronics you have the more amp's you will need to power them.

Trim uses a bunch. The rest of the draw depends on what fuel pump is used, and the injectors/ecu draw a little.

If I don't run the trim much on my 16 amp efi setup, little to no charging is required at the end of the day. Most 260's probably have a power hungry fuel pump compared to a stock efi pump.

I was just referring to the amount of current draw from the fuel pump( Bosch type ), coils, trim pump, etc.

It's hard to guesstimate draw because of variables. Bosch pumps run 10+ amps, depending on which model. Fuel injectors probably take around 4 amps each, to open. Trim and starter motor are likely well over 100 amps each. As Ski sez, the coils are not drawing off the battery.

Someone that runs one regularly would be better suited to answer your question.... You have one, what's your experience with battery condition after burning a tank full of gas? What model of fuel pump do you use?

Just a rough guess,.. 16-20 amps with a 10 amp fuel pump. Not including starting, or trim.

I was told that the Bosch 044 pumps draws about 6 amps.

I don't actually know what the amp draw is , as I dont have that engine. But do posses test equipment to read amp draw.

Heres some more info. A bit of a cock fight at the end.

    044 replacement pump
They start at a 100psi so maybe somewhere between 6 to 9 amp with a 56psi regulator
