40x and 40J anyone modding them?

As an OMC guy I am involved in a project for small race boats out here in Asia BUT its going to be Yam
Stock the Tohatsu 50 is a great pick ( still sold new) but not for a mod class as the locals want to run both.
Looks like the mod class, T750/850 will go with Yamaha 40x 15" engines as you can still buy them new
Can also buy a Parsun 40J 15" that has the old G series small 1:85 gearbox, that engine actually has a 2bbl carb on it ( as Yam did in the 80's so I just learnt)

The 40x has 2 huge openings in the front half so just begging for 2 singles or 2 2bbls and a custom reed setup, I assume like the 45 omc they can be made to make close to 70hp with say 160psi which will live on pump gas out here in the humidity.
Anyone got experience modifying them?

Before you ask, all 3 of those engines are about half the cost and weight of the Merc apx 60
