After what happened to Rey with 450s on that hull I hope they are careful with those 500s.

Good luck getting insurance on a 32 cat with twin 500's. Even the bigger cats are running into problems insuring 500 powered boats. Too fast and too risky for the underwriters.

32' is too short of a platform to run 130 mph. There have been several MTl 34s that have gone over, a couple of 32 DWs that have stood up, we lost Rey, and Brad is 100% correct, " if you want to have real life insurance coverage, you will most likely need a longer platform".

Those 19' STV's that go between 130 and 150 MPH .. how much power do you think they make ..

I have a few friends that have a tough time insuring 18' STV's as well. STV's do not comply with Coast Guard HP ratings (20' and under) by calling them race boats which brings up the insurance problem. I know of guys who lied about the HP of the outboard to secure ins. Not real smart as that gives the ins company an out on a claim. Part of the problem with larger boats is that the boats are very expensive, and the claims will be in the millions with injuries. One of my friends bought a new 40' cat with twin OB 500's and no cat experience. He was quoted over 30k a year for insurance.

as soon as insurance companies hear "air entrapment" or "pickelfork" its a no go. with the pad bottom boats that are sub 20' like a hydrostream or an action you're usually good until 300hp. Ive heard of stvs getting legit insurance but I've called all of those companies and been denied where I live in new jersey. I've heard Florida is even harder because of the theft issues they have down there.

I didn't ask about the Coast Guard, Insurance company's ... or what the DOT thought about towing an over width boat on public roads.
No need in me repeating my question .. your failure to respond the first time spoke volumes ...

When the "Peanut man" went 151 mph in an STV .. how much steam do you think he was making ???

You are not getting affordable real insurance on an STV (real means make a claim and not get cancelled). I have had lots of them and the days of calling State Farm or other major carriers to cover them are gone. You can insure anything but it will cost you a large percentage of the boats value on an annual basis. The horsepower to length ratio has a big influence and if you will accept an agreed value that is low enough it also drops annual policy cost dramatically. Insurance companies have been hit hard in recent years with total loss claims and it spoils the market for everyone in performance boating. Insurance is also what has affected new product release with higher horsepower output. There are manufactures that are pushing Mercury to limit speeds on current product.

Kid, you don't understand .. that don't matter ! I rent this boat to myself thru my heavily insured leasing corporation that is owned by one of my shell company's.
That way when I run out of talent, and do ten million dollars worth of damage to people and property .. not only will I be off the hook, but they will give me an exact replacement ... free of charge !
I'll say what the what the "experts" are afraid to ..
375 on nuts. Another 150 on the button ...

What year did Glenn Reynolds go 129 mph in an Allison XR2002? It would be interesting to learn the engine details.
I don't think that could be easily insured either.

How much of the insurance problem is from the liability as opposed to only the hull value? I suppose if you can't afford the boat you have to finance or lease it and that would mandate hull coverage.
