    Inline 6 lower on a v6?

Buddy bought a basket case , 200 efi powerhead on offshore mid with appears to be an inline 6 lower. I have inline 6’s and it sure looks the same. 8 spline. Do inline 6 lower bolt up to v6’s or does he have some kind of performance lower with a smaller bullet

    It's probably a 4 1/4" gearcase from an XR4. 1.78 gear ratio.

they will but tha front stud has ta be removed (gives it away) best i remember... also tha drives shaft is a tad shorter.. we use ta use those coned and cut down ta 16 inches on tha early V6 before merc brought tha good (better) factory stuff out.....

like said, probably XR4/6... tail of housing will tell which one without takin' it apart...tail of matin' surface same length as cav. plate it will be tha 4.. if its a little shorter than cav. plate it will be tha 6.... is it coned?

The inline will bolt up but the shift shaft will not. Used to run an xs85 (2.3:1) on a 200 back in the very early 80's. Shift shaft was off-set by about half an inch which was easy to accommodate. Problem is they don't hold up to the power very well.

My old XR4 apparently lasted a long time with the second owner who did not surface the lower unit. I blew up 3 or 4 XR4 lower units surfacing them.
