That’s a question for captain Insaneo who doesn’t seem to be posting much these days so I will offer what I remember. He runs a 15” mid right on the transom zero set back with Hoss Triton 1 choppers. He has multiple pitches. The hull is 100% as pipkorn built it so the hook and concave are still there. Runs well over 100. I’m running a Vking and so far the hoss triton 1 28p I sourced is by far my favourite prop. Really nice combo. I have a 200 banging close to 90 now but still working the set up it’s not getting all of it just yet.

There were a couple Vectors on the "top guns" list at hydrostream org... they were supposed to list the prop, engine & mods (I think): https://web.archive.org/web/20051014...rg/TopGuns.htm

Can’t go wrong with a lightning et for these hulls. Everyone who has one loves it and runs huge numbers. They are known to chuck blades though. Some guys say cleavers will run the hardest if you’re really pushing the limits. The set up there is about 1.5” above pad with perfectly neutral trim then the air lifts the bow. I know a dude who runs his king over a hundred with this set up. I haven’t personally seen it yet because he’s one of those guys with a dozen speed boats and he runs other stuff but I have no reason to not believe him. I’m simply nervous offering second hand advice that’s heresay so I offer these qualifiers in case you try it and it sucks lol no money back guarantee in this advice

1973 Vector (23"hi transom). Stock bottom. Daily use 26 Hill Yamy drag or 28 ET Lab (both props stk out of box) 3"back. 15" Mild Mod 225 PM with 34CC heads. 200 GC Bobs "shorty cut notched" LWP. Prop shaft 1"above +/_.
Lots of setup work and weight balancing. Big #no problem. Not for amateurs. Easy 90 in 800-ft w/20,22 24 Yamy drag props. Violent. Calm water boat only. Will bite and hurt. Core and transom must be done. A Drag style setup seemed to be much safer for big number. Generates highly spirited driving experiences.Last edited by scott reierson; 09-17-2024 at 12:04 PM.

Really depends on your goals. Setback increase porpoise and vectors porpoise a lot. If you want to just run hard a short mid mounted right on the transom is the way to go imo. Play with props to your liking. If you buy used and don’t damage them if you want to sell they hold value so it’s not hard to play with a budget. A 15” set up is going to cost you though. If you want to stick with a 20” I’d aim for the least amount of set back you can and if a hot speed machine is your only goal save the money and weight and get a manual plate. If you want some passenger options a power jack makes sense.
Prop wise my feelings are small ear choppers will bring the best bang for the buck and work well on that hull. I’d avoid large ears at least big pitch ones that will push you into that crazy area. Cleavers I dunno, on v hulls some love em, some hate em. Et props either merc or Yamaha drag probably best bet.
Horsepower wise? 300 is a ton for a vector. You’re going to need clanking balls to spool 300hp up to the max on a vector with a big pitch prop. I’d cringe to think how fast that peak speed would be. Most likely more than that hull can safely go imo. Vectors have a lot of lift. A good 200 with some compression is going to put you easy 90-100 once dialed in. Especially if you really tighten up the heads and run race gas that thing will move out like crazy with a 200 fishing motor. Plenty of us 200 fishin motor guys happy with the performance. If it ain’t enough you can always sell and add more. I like to take things in stages that’s my method. If your looking for a go big or go home approach a good 260 will do all you need and then some imo.
be careful. Core, transom, all must be tip top for this type of caperHydrostream dreamin

i ran mid 90's with a WEAK 200 and a 28" et cut chopper. no need to mess with the pad on the vectors they're pretty decent as is, just make sure they're not all banged up and that the core and transom are strong
