    new knees

Who has had knee replacement surgery? I just left the ortho and have been informed both knees are junk and need replaced. I have had multiple injections some of which were helpful but certainly didn't fix anything. My last major surgery was near 20 years ago so I spose things are different now. What should I expect and more importantly are there questions I should ask beforehand. I know with my heart history my cardiologist will have to give the OK but past that I am not sure. I also have read there are other options but I am very suspicious of the crap you read on the internet and my doctor says there are no other options. Appreciate any and all opinions and advice. Thanks.

I had a partial done on my left knee in 2017, was the best move for me. Be sure to follow all recommendations for PT. Good luck. Every year it seems new technology makes it better and easier.

Doing the Physio is the most important part. My father did very well. Some of his peers, not so much. I am putting off a hip replacement

One of my brothers had one replaced. It's a straight forward surgery. Like the others have said, do the P.T.

One of my close family friends was a hardcore motorcycle dirt bike man. He was a heavy equipment repair mech for work. He damaged his knees real bad with the bikes and had part of a huge forklift fall on him due to a crane failure that messed up his back and other stuff and put him on lifetime disability. Not long after this event he was struggling to walk and had to have one knee done about thirty years or so ago now and it was so so. He could walk ok but it wasn’t great. Then about twenty years back the other knee needed replacing and this is where the story gets interesting. He said he was barely awake from the antiseptic and the nurse was ordering him on his feet. He said it hurt like hell but she put him through a whole mess of activity immediately after the knee was in. He said it bled out the stitches like crazy and hurt like hell. A week later however he was blown away at how good that knee worked. So much so he went back and had the other one done again and did the same break in method immediately after surgery and that one too turned out great. He’s on almost twenty years on these knees now and while he is failing in health now for other reasons those knees have been great.

When my Dad went to get his done ten years ago or so I brought this up and said to make sure he did the immediate break in method. Well, stubborn gentleman that he is he didn’t and his knee sucks. It holds him up and all he doesn’t fall or anything but he can’t walk fast and has nothing good to say about that knee. Anyways it sure seems like the problem is scar tissue after the surgery can make issues. If you can bear some pain and work that sucker in straight away before the scar tissue sets in I’d bet it’ll work out well. Just the bits of info I can share hopefully help ya out.

I'm in my late 50's and my C17 landing gear is gratefully still good. My Pop's has had both keens replaced in his 70's, now approaching 83. It has extended his ability to roam freely. Geter done Rock so you can continue to mat it!
