Cool Cleetus is getting a new race car

They are having a purpose built tube chassis 69 Camaro manufactured. The engine is a Proline billet Hemi that is going to be twin turbocharged and will make 5000 hp.

I think it's for the popular Pro 275 radial tire class, many competitive cars came out of that chassis shop though (NPK etc) $$$$$$

That's a lot of HP's for a 275. Gonna be interesting for sure. 5k HP has got to be low 6's to high 5's I imagine.

I remember when TF dragsters and Funny Cars were running those times. Crazy what can be done with today's tech.

Should be in the 5's on a good track. But will they dedicate enough time and effort into maintenance with all the other entertainment going on?

You know you are old when you remember TF and FC were Chrysler iron and nowhere near 5,000hp.

Encase you didn't know, Cameron did the exo-cage on Leroy way back when he worked at ProFab before starting his own shop, and Tye worked at CJRC before joining Cleets team.

I think it's basically same HP range as NPK car/31 tire. probably softer tunes for 275 tire to get descent 60ft with that small drag radial etc ? Looks like they run mostly 1/8 mile.

They are defiantly going to need someone to take care of maintenance on that car.

After watching him run Mullet with the SMX engine knowing they had a stuck lifter on one cyl.
I was thinking they must be bringing in the big bucks to do that to an engine. I can only imagine the forces that took place in that dead cyl. with both valves closed. Plus they spun it to 9500 RPM.

When they tore the engine down they had split one main cap.

Was the silliest move running that engine, unlimited funds, I guess. The car was already overpowered w smx as their 60ft always sucked. Wrong car for that power, Put back BB Chevy and leave it alone. He needs a crew if he is going to race for points w proline hemi. Rods every 30 runs lol, inspect bearings how often ? Should be entertaining

Steve is putting the big block back together for the Elco and it will be the drag and drive car. It did way better with the big block and Steve already bought the SMX back from him before Sick Week even took place. Garrett even said the SMX was the wrong motor for that car/chassis.

Garrett wasn't even going to run it and Steve told him to, so he sent it. At that point, Steve had already bought the motor back from Garrett so it was Steves call. Accidentally spinning it up to 9500 is pretty much what hurt everything.

I agree, not that I don't think that Zack and Tye are up to it, but they already have full time jobs with the fleet of Crown Vics, and everything else that gets thrown at them. It would hurt the channel if he took them from the FF.
My wife thinks that he should start doing safer things, now that there are wee ones.

I went to Stafford Speedway in CT this past weekend for the New England 900. Also, I attended the burnout competition the next day. If any of you all ever decide to check out a Cleetus and Cars event, you will not be disappointed. Cleet and pretty much everyone that participated in the event made themselves very accessible for photos, autographs, and a quick chat. I have watched him develop into an amazing promoter over the last 4 or 5 years. Dam, does this guy understand the entertainment industry.

The wife and I are thinking about going to the Freedom Factory in the spring for the Freedom 500. The access and friendly atmosphere is the complete opposite of NASCAR.

I don't think they have any plans of getting involved w a pro275 points race, probably just see how competitive they can be with some local events. I also don't understand why they didn't modify the car from the get-go to accept a big NPK tire? CK said the car would have to come back for tub/quarter panel modifications to fit a pair. Still waiting to see how his helicopter is coming along, should be close ?

I bet that he thought that he would never want a drag car of this magnitude, at the time. How many of us have started a project and got in way deeper than we ever thought we would.

That Helo should be like bran new when he gets it back. I hope he starts giving island tours with it.
