I miss running with you on the river! Boat runs similar to a liberator. Better big water capability, but honestly its still a 21 footer. The liberator is faster and quicker. Larry and I both ran 90 in 1000ft at 3 lakes last year. I did it with 450hp, Larry did it with 300hp. Larry will have 450hp this year.......
This year I will be sawing it. The new boat is insane. It has the power to weight ratio of a 2002 with a 300 drag.

Thanks. The LCB was honestly the safest boat I have ever run at those speeds. It was so mild mannered. The 450R was the perfect power for that boat. Very few boats can run 110 loaded to fish a bass tournament. That boat could do it. If you wanted it to.

I thought I would never hear about a Hydrostream owner hopping in an Allison and struggle with it. I know 'race' boats have to be 'driven' but Hydrostreans are notorious ill handling.....at least the ones I have been in.

I did - my first Grandsport took such minimal steering corrections that somebody watching could barely tell I was turning the wheel. My Dad’s Hydrostream took much more steering corrections.
I think a Hydrostream owner would “over steer / drive” an Allison until he got the hang of it - at least in my case.

Question Larry, how would you rate the low-end torque of the 300 to the 500HP,
Just what is the difference between the two motors? Low and midrange. We have invented the world; WE see

the 450R has considerably more power down low. I’m sure the 500 brings more juice to the party. I have tested the 300R 1.75 vs the 300R 1.6 and now have the 450R 1.6. The 450R is a beast up top and down below. I have also tested a 450R with 1.75’s.
the 450R on the LCB could pull tubers and skiers right out of the hole all day with a 32p prop that could run 110 up top. That is awesome and made the boat and motor super versatile.
Here are the results over the years at the 1000’ race with different boats and motors. The LCB with 450R is a huge heavy boat and it beat all the other boats I have ever run at that event. Take into account my Liberator was converted to a fishing boat and was heavier than Larry’s 21’ with 300R.
My Liberator 300x did 76
My eliminator 19 Daytona 260 did 86
My xb21 300xs was 82
My xb21 300r was 86
My LCB 450r was 90.Last edited by river rocket; 04-21-2024 at 09:12 AM.

It's substantial. The 500R is a bit different animal with the new R drive 5.9" lower unit. They don't (and wont) offer it with the smaller 5.4" sporty, so it may not be the best application for smaller boats. The 450R may have been the biggest HP with the 5.4" sporty merc will ever offer, which is why I grabbed one of the last batch made. It's night and day from the 300R, which it should with 50% more HP.

The Allison comparisons are cool to read as Jace just bought his SS2000 260 combo. He hit his stride last year with the 24 Tuff and it was getting to the second nature part where he flew it with out thinking about it really well. We bought his SS2000 on Dec 23rd and decided to test it on the 24th when it was 40-42 degrees out on White Lake. I told him to take it easy the first day and cruise at 60 on the pad as the water was too cold to get wet! That lasted about 5 min and he buzzed us in the dinghy (support boat) at 90+. He told me to drive it and I was like no way am I doing what you did an he said its exactly like the Tuff you just need to be a bit quicker. It took me one lap to crack 90 on a 3 mile stretch. We both ran 100+ in under 1 hr of playing around on the lake. You are right very minimal quick movements on the wheel. The center steer SS is a odd feeling compared to the Tuff for the attitude of the boat though. It feels like you are nose down with a great field of view. The Tuff sorta has a feeling of being a bit bow high dragging its ass haha.
