the joys of finding what the other guy did restorations

I'm still working on my 16.5 Cee Bee Avenger. the other guy replaced the floor and transom, Got the boat in the water and it didn't run right. Felt like the bottom was moving around. I gave up and cut a section of the floor out. Yea, floor wasn't tied into the stringers, and the stringers are bad. and well the floor materiel was not for a boat. and well the flotation was interesting too.

I've seen it cars, boats, and houses. Man buys a wrench or hammer and thinks they know how to use them. I remember the last UAW strike in our area and all of a sudden there were building contractors everywhere. Made for a good rebuild market after about ten years.

The more I learn about boats the more I realize most are hiding spooky stories buried in the laminate. I too, have been there before. Bought one “restored” yep sure was restored all right. Restored to the same deadly standards before the restoration lol. Fortunately the guy I sold it to figured it out and restored it again himself.

As for me? I threw in the towel, bought a basket case, and I’m still restoring it. Good times let me tell ya good times

I got the hull for free, and paid too much The guy had used this hull as a shooting platform for carp. Why I have no idea. But when he put it up for sale, I told him if he couldn't sell it, I'd take the hull and restore it. Oddly enough, I still like it. now just waiting for warmer weather do more work. It does suck cutting out the added knees I put in with west epoxy to remove the floor he put in with liquid nails.

With the junk I buy, or get for free, I see lots of half ass owner “fixes”. The worst was one with a replaced transom. It looked like just bare plywood but after tearing it off I found stacked up non treated 2 x 4’s. They weren’t even attached to each other. Best of all, and I kid you not, they were full of carpenter ants.
