Mercury 2.5 Questions
Can you run surface gap spark plugs with the CDM ignition or do you have to use switch boxes?
Does the efi (tbi) fuel system need to run with the CDM ignition or can it run with the switchboxes?

efi can run on switchboxes. Surface gap can run with cdm but they have to be resistor type like the BUZHW

Great. Among all my boats, I have a 135-2L, 150-2L, 150-XR4, and a 175-Ski, and have just started building a 200-2.5L. So good to know what my options are for the 200.
BUZHW appears to be regular gap, so I think it would be the BUZ8H that you are referring to being surface gap resistor?

Surface gaps are really for "fishing motors"... they can foul and foul and still find a place to fire; but they really aren't the hi-perf choice.
They fire, but there isn't much fuel/air in the gap when they do.
Let's just go ahead and make America great again!

Oh let me explain...
I like a carbed motor without oil injection because its so simple and reliable.
But I like oil injection because then I don't need to worry about mixing the gas, and truthfully I don't run enough rpms to worry about that plastic oil gear.
The XRI is cool because is seem easier than all those little carb parts, but I don't like the extra few lbs.
So, the TBI EFI looks great with how it should run, but again another few lbs., and I believe you have to run oil injection.
Also, I like those surface gap plugs because they last forever and never need much attention.
Slow decision.
