Second effort single pinion v8 lower vs stock v8 lower

Greetings, does anyone have any history/experience/knowledge concerning the second effort v8(3.6L) single pinion low water pickup lower units? Are they any more durable than the stock units?

    Thanks for stopping by

They use the same gears unless it is one for the offshore race 3.5 which has a different ratio.

Racer, thanks for the reply. It's definitely not for the 3.5. Are there any issues with installing 1987 v8 lower on a 1989 3.0L?

    Thanks

Imo the second effort offshore gearcases are more durable than stock ones....especially on heavier hulls. I ran Standard and Counter offshore case for 15 years with Zero issues. Another fellow had 4 V8's on his boat with 2 second effort cases and 2 standard lowers. Never had a failure with the Second effort offshore cases but had some failures with the standard lowers. That being said I understand the Offshore cases are not as efficient and run slower than the stock case. I didn't care about loosing a few mph versus blowing up a gearcase

That's interesting. Good to hear about the durability. what is it that causes the efficiency reduction with the offshore cases? Those chrome cases look great!

Sorry but the owner is deceased so it's not right for me to share any pics. It was a 39' Sutphen with 4 x Evinrude V8 motors that ran 75ish

    I have a V-6 Version on an 8 I’m building.

Internals all appear to be stock/OEM but w/the increased length of the case, I’d expect it to flex less/be more rigid than a standard case.

I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.
