    500R Prop suggestions

Good morning Boat enthusiasts. Kevin at KMG boats is building me an old guy, family friendly sport boat. This is a 22’ Phantom sport deck (open bow) and will be powered by a 500R. He’s built these with 450’s in the past so there is some baseline for props but apparently the lower unit on the 500 is different so it may not be as simple as just the same prop only a little more. Goal will be more focused on acceleration rather than squeezing every last mph out of the rig. Any thoughts? Also, Hill props is fairly close and will be a good option to be able to try and exchange props.
    Thanks for any input.
    John

There is a new hub kit that adapts the Ventera (probably not an option for you) and the MAX5 props to the 500R. Otherwise there is a new line of 500hp CNC cleavers for the 500R in a wide variety of options.

    Hi!

Congrats with the 500R I have a UK Phantom 25 with 450R. Max5 proved to be a very good choice. Great acceleration, cruise and top speed as the engine can be rised high.

Depends on whether you need stern lift or bow lift. I have never met anyone that bought a Hill that liked it. The props ran good but I consistently heard they were 2-3 mph slower than others. Max 5 if you need stern lift....... Bravo FS if you want a great everyday prop without breaking the bank.

Never met Capt j, but like Hill props. I have a pretty good collection of fast props, Hill 4 blade cleaver runs faster then any I own on my LTV, and a Eagle 4 blade was the fastest on my Bullet, till I tried a Mazco re3 2 days ago.

If I had a local shop like Hill marine I would support my local buisness, and take advantage of the situation. Might $ave a guy from a unwanted prop collection. I know they make some 4 and 5 blade props for the big ob's. Also read about a few people that had good results. Believe there's a thread on this site that compares them with Merc cnc cleavers, giving top speed numbers, and their experience. Maybe a Wildman thread, or post?

If you are going to run a Hill, have him build you a 15.25 5 blade thru hub in a 30 pitch with 15 degrees of rake. That will give you incredible planing capability and serious acceleration. Have him cut the flare off of the barrel. It will still run North of 105 mph. As Nick said otherwise, there are the Merc. CNC and they will make you whatever you want. My experience with the Eliminator, Liberator, and hulls like you have coming tells me to start with what I mentioned and go from there if you want more top end. Please be careful running with people upfront-the thought scares me and getting it to air up properly will be sketchy.

Dave Dewald can also build you a 1.5" spline thru hub 5 blade cleaver and makes some really good numbers when needed or desired.
