The Johnrudes Aint Rolled Over Yet!
Heard from one of my field correspondents that a Monty Racing V-6 Johnny (wasn't even an 8)won Unlimited at the last ODBA race
Heard that past and presesnt champ Marty Logan was running good too, but got beat "good" by the Johnny
Seems that a couple of Merc guys were mouthing off on this site not too long ago that this was impossible
I'm sure there's a reason why this wasn'y fair or legal but that's what I heard.
Also heard that about 2 UIM F-1 races ago a Johnny set the pole qualifing time and course record
Only reason he did'nt win was I believe gear case failure??
Talk away guys but remember (as I've been saying from day 1), no factory support, hell, there's no such thing as an OMC/Bomardier (or who ever owns em this week) Hi Po/Race motor catalog let alone the motors them selves!
Good job and congrats Ray Leech (hope I got the name right) and Gordon Monatgue, welcome back guys!
GaryI'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

The Truth is
Now don't take me wrong , because I do own a Monty v-6 and I think the world of him BUT , Marty Logans motor had NO2 problems.---I like to see the OMCs do well, and the person to watch out for is Pat Jones 1/4 master OMC mod pro boat . When he gets the bugs worked out he is going to be a pain In those guys ass. I saw him blow by his competitors till 7,000 rpms then go flat due to carbs flooding, yes he is running carbs in a EFI class.

Gator, you just have to stir the pot
I believe you will see another entry into the fray. The Maddman has a 3.3 block on his bench that looks like the aluminum termites have been at it. That thing has some holes in it a Yugo could drive through without touching the mirrors.
Seems he has this hard on (similar to yours) for the Merc guys and intends to do something about it. He has a billet mid section mounted on what looks like a potato chip with a canopy waiting for the powerhead. Looks like it may make the Rumble. Damn this is going to be fun.

You seem to discount Bombardiers ownership! The old OMC had LOTS of problems, in lots of areas ( I use to race MVP in the early to mid 80s with a OMC). A old friend of mine has worked as a factory service rep for 25 years now, and what you will see comming out called E-TEC will make YOU proud to be that die-hard OMC guy that you are. E-TEC is head and shoulders above anything yes anything out there ( I presently own a Merc 300, 280, 260 and a OMC 225 so I'm not prejudice like you) I believe two years from now you will see Bombardier gaining a HUGE marketshare, and get back into racing with E-TEC good to 10,000 plus rpms

Bombardier
Cuda, let's hope that you are right. If not, drag racing in 15 years will be Yamaha vs. Honda.

Try this
It does not tell it all but it is a start. The cylinder walls are made out of Borium it's in the tungsten carbide family, and the pistons are three time stronger than what we use now! You have to remember Bombardier is in the aircraft and aerospace industries. They don't build bowling lanes. http://www.pymaboatsales.com/evinrude.html

Just think of GREEN and YELLOW BMC!

I wrote this when there was some "jawin'" going on here.....imagine that!
The Bomb
There's a problem dark guys can't see,
the new boss-man is B-M-C.
This has really been a long time a-comin',
but the Bomb is gonna' send 'em runnin'!
This ain't something I've been dreamin',
all those Merc guys gonna' run home squealin'!
Most of these dark guys ain't no dope,
but if you look in their rig, I bet they got rope!
Black is beautiful, but let us be clear,
the next OB champ will be Bombardier!!!

Damn F-Crazy
You get lucky at the By-U-Boyz and outrun a Merc - now you join Gator in the quest to belittle all us Merc guys - guys who would never say a harsh word to any JohnnyRude loyalist.
I am crushed.
By the way, thanks for the pics and where is the new boat?

Me, prejudice??
Say it aint so!
In all ohnesty, that is not true.
Have many people in my life ask what I think and what to buy for their Hi Po O/B toy.
Answer is easy and you'd be lying if you said anything else.
If you want out of the box power/performance, there is only one choice.
MERC!
I have told every one that will listen (usally after I'm told I'm prejudice or have a chip on my shoulders), the 280 (like I have two tickets to win at the Rumble), and the 300 drag are fregin unbelievable motors!!
Aftre spending 2 years grinding, cutting and welding to "build" my FrankenRude project i have even more respect for them.
What i do have a problem with is the people that only know about those motors and act like that was the "creation" of Hi Po/Racing O/B's.
There was life before the 2.5 Mercs.
And yes OMC was heavily involved in racing up through about the mid 80's.
I ran Stock, Mod and Pro O/B fro nine years. Guess which breed I ran the longest? Merc!
Guess i feel a right to be able to whine/bitch if I want to.
Can't stand politics involved in racing but it has been from day one!
We have idiots on this board that spend all their breath bashing OMC's racing history, the records of the F-1 V-8's etc.
Read the Hot Boat article on OMC factory driver Jimbo McConnell for a history lesson.
Talk to our own Racer/Al Stoker about Mod VP, or better yet watch the tapes I have (they will be at the Rumble) of Al showing up at a race with a an OMC Cross Flow and competing against 24 other boats and winning. Half the freagin time from the back of the pack! (Oh yeah the other 24 boats?? almost always, all Mercs!)
Never said one was better than the other just give them some freagin respect!
Last year an OMC won the 24 Hr race in Rouhen France. It was a freagin privateer team (OMC was on the auction block at the time) and they (OMC) got nothing but crap on this board after the fact.
Beat every Merc factory team there and that's still not good enough!
Let's see, the second place Merc was gianing on him?? Well no sh*&! Watch any endurance race anywhere (bikes, cars, or boats) and see what happens in the final laps when the leader has a "safe" lead. They slow the hell down to make sure and finish the race! (The Johnny had I believe a 9 or 13 lap lead until he started slowing at the end)
The O/B record is held by a Johnny so it does'nt matter right??
That's what has been said on this board over and over.
L.T., I have heard about the Mad Mans project and the popssibilty of it making the Rumble and yes my fingers are crossed!
On the history part, ask anyone that has actually raced a V-8 to see if they really were "stronger" than any Merc ever built.
Usually, the word scary comes up.
My buddy Yammer is friends with a certain Canadian driver that was one of the first to test/race a F-1 V-8 and he used the word that I did to describe.
Yet we've got idiots on this board that say they were at the races in the "70's" and saw the Mercs whip them on even ground.
Let's see, the magazine artilce that I posted then deleted ) was the first test of that motor and it was in '1982
Wonder what that freagin expert was smokin back in the 70's??
When i was still racing kneel down boats the fastest class in Stock O/B was "D Stock Hydro" which were the 4 cyl Mk 55 H Mercs.
In the early '80's OMC came out with thier 45 SS motor.
I was at the race where theat motor was introduced.
It was 1 cu.in. too big (freagin politics) to be a legal "D" motor if they would have alowed it.
The D Hydro Kilo record in the day was 83 and change.
They ran the 45's on tunnel boats that were much heavier and slower than the hydros.
Their Kilo record their first year was higher than the Mercs, and remember the Mercs were on 130 lb 3 point hydro's and the Johnnies were on 300 lb tunnels.
Merc had 2.4 bridgeports that got beat by cross flow Johnnies (I have the tapes), they had/have 2.5's that got beat by the V-8's ( I have the tapes), they had 2.5s' that got beat by the Johhny "Loopers" ( I have the tapes).
Not prejudice, just have a better and more accurate memory than a bunch of the "experts" on this board.
If some of the rumors prevail, this should be a very interesting Rumble in deed!
Again, not prejudice, just sick of trying to educate/enlighten people that will not accept factual information and I'm gulible enough to keep doing it over and over again when i swear i wont!
