    Rebuild kits

Has anyone tried a E-bay rebuild kit? Pistons, rings ,bearings, and gaskets are included. I'm thinking about rebuilding a 200 Pro Max I have. It won't be run hard it's going on my 25' pontoon. The motor was on my hydrostream with several hours and needs freshened up.

WSM makes some of the nicest rebuild kits and at decent price.

What brand are you looking at?

I think he is looking at the WSM kits for like 1200-1300 bucks. If pontoon life is the future I would think it is fine. Take your motor down first to make sure you have good bores to put new pistons in and double check the size of all 6!

I think most of the ebay kits come with pro marine pistons. I've used most of the parts that come in the kits.
I'm going to venture that most of it is made in China. It will work, but the adapter plate gaskets burn out easy. The pistons are fairly low quality compared to stock. I would look for a seller that let's you upgrade a kit with better pistons like vertex, or wsm. You might also benefit from finding a better adapter gasket that the exhaust runs through.

I built a 40 yamaha with this kit

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/32354306480...Bk9SR760_OmWYw

And the brass oil gear stripped out on the crank after about 25 hours. Not sure how in the world that happened, but it cost me rebuilding the engine a 2nd time on my dime...even though I told the guy not to run oil injection when I built the motor the first time. I begged him to let me ditch the oil injection but he insisted on having it...
Still, the gear shouldn't have stripped and I'm not sure why/how it did. The oil pump turned smoothly and was not binding up. Anyway...I turned the gear down into a bushing and built it a second time and have not had any issues. Pistons and rings looked ok for being run without oil lol, but I did give an extra 0.002 of clearance in the bores the first go-around because of water damage. Dude who I built it for loves to sink this particular engine on his 8ft boat.

Still I would go with Chris' parts, he can put together what you need. I've rebuilt a few motors with the rings and other misc. parts he sells and they are great.

In a nod to the pros here, Chris rebuilt my oil injected carb Yammie 40 during COVID. He encouraged me to pre mix which I am doing, and it’s 25 hours and going great. I premix for my Merc V6 so it’s no extra trouble for the 40 anyway. The pro guys here are priceless. Go with them. Even if you don’t need machine work, and can assemble for yourself. (Mine needed machine work so assembling alone was off the table for me, the spotless cleaning and factory looking paint was a nice touch too).
