It is surprising that they got over 200 miles towing with an electric pick up.

It's surprising nobody's thought about adding a large battery pack to trailers to help them tow themselves, or recharge @ the other end. (maybe the trailer could have regenerative brakes on it also)

Yep, power generated by coal or other "evil fuel" and used to charge a battery is no better and actually causes more total pollution than a point of use, gas or diesel engine. Especially on bigger vehicles. The whole thing is silly.

I can only remember back about 50-55 years, but from northern Wisconsin to southern Florida, the climate is exactly the same now as it was then.

The only difference is now a lot more people have air conditioning and insulated houses!

As it turns out, generating electricity from coal and charging batteries is usually more energy efficient than a gasoline engine. Most road vehicles are in the area of 20-40% efficiency.

On the other hand, the GM electric pick up uses the 2800 lb Hummer battery pack. Lots of range, but at the cost of weight and the electricity used to make the battery. Sitting new in a driveway, an EV takes more C02 to produce. But the C02 payback is relatively quick for most EVs. Longer for a Hummer The attached chart is from the SAE (society of automotive engineers).

Right from the start you lose about 30% when charging. Give it up, it's folly. It's fashionable, but useless.

And it makes NO DIFFERENCE...there's no energy crisis, there's no climate crisis, there is only a common sense crisis.

BUT, with more EV's on the road you need more power plants. If you don't make them nuclear you are using coal or nat gas. With more power plants you get more pollution.
So, how many power plants would need to be built to support all vehicles on the road? How much more CO2 once they are all operational? I bet it will come close to a total wash. Not even going to get into the strip mining for lithium and coal.

Gasoline cars are constantly getting cleaner. For example my 89 Mustang GT had a 5.0L V8 that made 225hp and got 26MPG on the highway. My 2020 Chrysler 300 S has a 3.6L V6 that makes 300hp and gets 33MPG on the highway; while weighing 600lbs. more than my Mustang.
What will a gasoline engine do in another 30 years???

Not to mention once you go all electric you are beholden to the electric company; no choice where you get your juice. Plus hurricanes and winter storms will knock out power stations. What do you do then?

Don't waste your time pointing out all the problems. The electric car cult does not care if it was a stupid theory to begin with. They are invested heavily into the world of make believe.

No, you're the dumb one (and me)... it was our money!

Ford and its South Korean battery manufacturing partner SK On have agreed to a loan of $9.2 billion from the US Department of Energy as part of President Joe Biden's push to bring more electric vehicle production to the United States.
