    pro craft prop

just put an xr6 on a 1987 pro craft 1780v, tried it out today with a friends fury25p, came out of hole great( no plugs) but topped out @ 55(gps) at 4500rpm?? Should be closer to 5600! Is the fury(says for 200hp and up) too much for the stock xr6? merc prop selector came up with tempest+ 25/26, also fury 24/25! Boat on plane in a few seconds(a couple boat lengths!!!)

Have you got the prop buried? I would start the prop out @ 3.5 below the pad and come up. You should end up at about 3", check the hull. Move the weight to the far rear, you need to get the static balance further to the rear. Level the boat side to side. I run a pro 185 with a 150/25p. tempest @ 5950 rpm,s. Give us more info, set up, gear ratio, boat weight, all batteries to the rear? Etc. So i read your post again and have to tell you i have never ran a ''v'' hull but would pick the motor up to get that out of the way for now.

20 ft champion, I have a hard time spinning a 25 tempest on a 200, or 225. Alright empty, but not loaded.
The fury runs a bit higher in pitch than advertised. Alot of newer bass boats are running a 24p fury on a 250hp.

R.C.nailed the optimal engine engine height for most bass boats (used for their intended purpose). Height of engine plays a major factor in your max rpm. If you have no lwp I would recommend 21- 23 pitch in a 14 1/2". If you use a smaller diameter 13 1/2" (like a laser), you would be able to run higher pitch. If you had a lwp, you could get half the prop out of the water, and run full diameter 26 or 28p, but not the best option for hauling bass, and beer belly's.

I worked at a dealership that sold a LOT of those Pro Crafts 1780's. If the boat does not have a jack plate you need one. Those boats perform poorly with the motor on the transom. They are bow heavy and do not have a deep transom step. You need leverage! The Johnson GT 150's always ran best with a 24 Raker.
I have seen a couple of these boats with voids in the pad. Tap all over the pad with a small ball peen hammer. You will hear the sound change if you hit a void.
