New to me 2.4L Bridgeport EFI no start / fuel system questions
Hi all, first post here. Just picked up an open bow Baker mod vp hull with a 2.4 Bridgeport EFI motor that was mounted on the boat but not finished being rigged. Don’t know what year and don’t see the normal merc serial tag to ID it. We did a compression check before I bought it and had 125-130 psi accross the board, I checked spark which was strong and good on all 6 cyl. Seller gave me a Bosch external fuel pump which I first tested into a gas can for flow, then wired & plumbed in the boat, it seems to be dead heading the pump and I am not getting any fuel out of the return line and the motor will crank but not start. Not sure if injectors are firing but did confirm there is atleast some fuel pressure (I don’t know exactly how much yet) between the fuel pump & into the fuel rail. It goes into a T, then into a regulator and T’d to the rail with injectors but again not getting any flow from the return and even if the regulator was closed it seems like it would be passing fuel through the T fitting and going to the return? Does this sound correct? No Schroeder valve to check psi, do they make inline gauges? Should the fuel pump be dead heading? Should it be returning fuel? Any help would be greatly appreciated, can’t wait to hear thing thing fire and hoping to get it on the water this weekend to see how the boat runs! Thanks!

Also what would be the best manual to have for this thing? Still learning about outboards!

Wow, a ModVP bow rider. That’s quite a find these days. Love to see some pics of your boat in an appropriate thread. With a wife and two little girls, a bow rider became a reality for us. But speedy bow riders are not easy to find. Ours has a regular carb 2.4/200.
Sorry can’t help with your problem except that I’m pretty sure that for EFI motors the control module is what should be turning off and on the fuel pump. Not you. I’m sure the legends will chime in.

first off need ya identify it.. build date stamped on port side kinda where this one is... maybe a serial no. stamped on tha case half flange.. number on ecu.. its an analog from pictures.. jus from tha pics i'd replace all tha 1/8" tubing jus 'cause ta start with... squirt a little pre-mix in it jus ta make sure its a fuel delivery issue...............
it could be any number of things.. jus real hard ta give ya a direction without NOT being there.. computer dia. is justa guess at best............Last edited by tlwjkw; 09-11-2023 at 02:34 AM.

I don't think that short fuel line from middle of your fuel rail belongs there.
Fuel goes to the rail, then to the fuel regulator and out your return line. Not an expert though.
Try blocking off that short fuel line.

There is just a small hole in that T that goes to the fuel rail. It should be there. I am guessing the ecu is not firing injectors. Find someone with a brucato you can try.
