Evinrude/jhonson v8 outboard or Mercury v6 conclusion ??¿¿
Hey guys Tony here !!
So in conclusion from doing research and hearing all of you guys opinions it would be a waste of time to build a v8 jhon/rude outboard, my best bet is to go with a mercury 2.5 ,2.4 efi v6 and or a 3.0 3.2 optimax motor.
Although my original plan was to finish building a 21 superboat/challenger , I ran out of luck and sold the unfinished hull to a good friend of mine with the rest of the funds my plan is to build an engine and with out a boat (yes i am crazy). But what truly does make the v8 a bad platform aside from the shortage of parts to support it wouldn’t a fully souped up v8 be even more powerful then a new four stroke v8 Mercury outboard??

Don't know your budget but talk to Gordon at Monty racing in FLa. His v8's are serious machinery. No real shortage of v8 stuff out there that I have seen. It's all expensive, any way you go. Gordon will treat you right.

...1 burns twice the amount of fuel AND oil than the other. run a little heavy on the oil too. they still give a discount for cash at the gas pumps?...

550lbs is actually pretty darn light for a V8. But weight is weight. i always liked the 3.0 merc carbed motors, but good luck finding a good one in 20'' now. if going with OMC a 3 liter v6 is hard to beat, especially with the digital pack and timer upgrade. starts instantly like a car after that.
