ok, same 2 pics. the red areas would have to be cut away. definitely on the reed side and i would think also on the crank side of the block half. i have a couple of 2.4 front block half's if anybody wants to try and still have an intact motor if it doesn't work. i may have a 2.5 front half if the rod sticking through the rear block didn't hurt the front half.

ok, here is a what-if. the 3.0 6 petal reed setup. what if someone opened up the back of their 5 petal intake so that these reeds fit? they look larger-per reed-than the 2.5 setup. and they are cheap and easy to find. if somebody has both motors, maybe put a 3.0 reed on a 2.5 intake and see if it may be doable. found a single reed cage on ebay. may be too thick and too short. if so i wasted 20 bucks but we will know...

so, stuffing. i assume that means the smaller the crank case volume under the piston the greater crank case suction gets created by the piston? therefore if one starts opening up the area between the reed and the connecting rod for airflow he will also be losing intake suction?

Yeah, so to speak.

So every time you whip out the die grinder you are making it more powerful at one rpm and less powerful at another…

You usually end up moving the power curve, and hopefully,.. if you know what your doing, you make more hp, if not, or trying to build for extreme top end, you end up with a lazy engine.
Porting on these things has been a learning experience. Theres alot of steel in the exhaust and cylinders of the blocks, especially a 2.0.

Although this isn't helping me figure out why my Blue intake is has the Merc script, flat cut carb base with no pass through and seems to be different somehow than the other intakes.
Is your goal to copy a 2.5 7 pedal front half and a 2.5 7 pedal intake? If I don't ask any questions, I'll never learn anything.

Your natural aluminum intakes are 2.5?
I could probably use one!
I think, as stated earlier, it's a good possiblity it's from a 80 or 81.
My goal is to keep the Cobb webs in my wallet, and try and build a 7 petal engine with what I got.

You would need the 7 petal reed blocks at the very least. That is why I am wondering if 6 petal 3.0 would work. Common. Easy to find. Hell there are 6 or 7 3.0 intakes on eBay with reed cages attached for under 100 bucks as we speak. I doubt there is 1 7 petal cage available anywhere right now. Let alone an intake with all 6 included.

All parts In my garage.
I think a 3.0 would require major surgery? Like bandsaw, welder, etc, etc?

Looking at my 2.4 block halves (84 and 90) the offset intake would fit. I have no experience with way old 2.4’s. And the vert reed 2.0 are no help for comparison. Both my 2.5 have the straight-across top bolts. They are 95 and 00.

My 82, doesn't have the offset hole at the bottom starboard side. It is very similar to your blue intake, in that it has 45° cuts top and bottom and has the large fittings in both sides of the intake, but it's different.
