Nosecone speedometer pickup question.
Would this work? On a Bobs nosecone at the very top of the cone, where it is even with the top of a stock lower the metal is only about a quarter of an inch thick. If you drilled straight down into the cavity where the water is picked up and installed a small tube outlet would that water pressure be overpowering for a speedometer. I am thinking this would work. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Many thanks, Carter Powell

I bet it would work. You could calibrate with restrictors.
Good idea!

A lot of lowers have pickup installed there. It is a big improvement over gps cuz it is around 10 mph faster. Which translates to 100 more hp. And no extra fuel!!

I don't think that would work... the
cooling system pressure is limited by the poppet valve? Speedo needs it's own inlet.Trump!

Pre water pump from the poppet.
Maybe you just end up with a extra 4" water pressure gauge, kinda?

But the impeller just folds in at speed... I'm told.

I have GPS in my other boat but I was just wondering if this would work. I have another boat that I am redoing and it already has a non GPS speedo in it. I was told that the pressure is the same whether it is a small hole or a larger one. Just an idea.
thanks, Carter

Your probably right about restrictors not working, as there is no flow out of sender tube.
I think you ought to try it, and let me know.
I have a couple boats, could use this.
I build flush mount water pickups into the bottom of my model boats with ks brass tube, if your willing to drill a hole in the bottom of your boat, I'll tell you all about it.Last edited by OnPad; 06-04-2023 at 10:18 PM.

Is there a reason you want to go to these lengths to retain a speedo that's not accurate? Can't you get a replacement speedo in GPS?

I have a transom mounted speedo pickup... just a p.o.s. plastic one that flips up if you run over something.
They're like $5 and work with any pitot-type speedo, so why fool around making something in the lower unit?

The reason I wanted to try this is because of all the original gauges. The gauges are autometer and the speedo is already there. I know that GPS is the way to go but I was just wondering if somebody thought this method might work, that's all.
Thanks, Carter Powell
