Exclamation HydroStream Viper 110+ MPH runs

Charlie Poveromo making some runs with his 1975 Viper at Markham Park in Florida. According to the GoPro GPS, the best run was 111.1 MPH. That boat is beautiful. It still has its original metalflake finish and looks like new. Just unreal. Charlie built that Mercury 2.4 for drag racing. He’ll be at the SODA races at Eustis in July as will I.

Have a safe Memorial Day weekend everyone!

I think he runs a Sportmaster. He's using a cleaver though I do not know specifically which one. Maybe Charlie can come here and help with details.

When he first started running this Viper with the IL-6 it seemed to me to be one of the "fast ones". At the dealership once in a while we would rig out a hull that could out run the others of the same model.

Was it the boat or was it the motor? Assuming set up and the props were the same.

Motors vary little , these were 1976-78 model stock engines from merc. The boats were the big variable in performance. The dealer said that the best ones were left in the mold longer and cured fully before removal. (He raced Allison 15's) I bet they left the tater chip comp boats in mold longer as standard practice too! As I got more fiberglass exp. over the years I soon saw he was right. The more cure time, better product overall. If you carefully look at the same model boat's bottom the deviations will surprise you.

Yeah, I was surprised when I realized that.

It's not Jeff's but it looks exactly like it. I don't know how Charlie found a Viper this clean. The gelcoat literally looks new. It's really incredible.
