    I3 90

I have a Merc 90 that I cannot get to line up correctly with the shift shaft. Lower shifts fine on bench so I am pretty sure the lower is not the issue. If I set shifter in neutral on the slide it will only bolt up if I move the shifter forward or backward leavinjg me with either neutral and forward or neutral and reverse. What am I missing. Thanks.

sounds like your shifting on the wrong side of the shift cam, like 270 degrees out.Turn the shift shaft in the lower counter clockwise, feel restance,go a little further and you'll feel the neutral detent in the cam.
