Hydrostream Virage Stage II - 1989 - Rochester MN

My '89 Hydrostream Virage Stage II hasn't left my garage in at least 5 years. The hull is in great shape but the Evinrude engine always started hard so I doubt it will start now. The trailer and 2 covers are included (covers are probably fragile since they are 30+ years old). I can send more pictures. Rochester, MN. $5000

    Sold it

Can you tell the condition of the transom? So these models have a wood care and if so, had it ever been replaced?

I remember some very small hairline cracks right in the corners when I bought the boat more than 25 years ago. I checked around and was convinced they were normal. Nothing changed over time, and they were never an issue. Nothing has been replaced.
Is there something I can look for (or some sort of test)?

I just when out to have a look. It looks the same as it did 25 years ago. I think it's just a stress crack in the gel coat. Pretty small. I'll try to take some pictures but I'm not sure anything will even show on a picture.

    picture of the transom

The pencil is pointing just above the crack. It's pretty small so you will have to zoom in to see it (if the resolution of reduced by the upload, it might not show up at all)

The engine size is somewhat uncertain. The Cover says 150 Limited Edition but over the years I have concluded its more likely a 235. That's based on 150HP parts that did not fit and 235 parts that did. Also based on visual matches. The guy I bought it from didn't mention it but I think he put a new engine block on it. I think the engine is a little older than the boat... maybe 1980. The oil injection was either removed or it never had it so I have always pre-mixed. I don't think it was ever running at peak performance, but it was always good enough for me. Blade is a 4 blade SS but that's all I know about it. I never saw anything above 67 mph but like I said, I don't think the engine was really running great. If I was going to keep the boat, I think I'd start looking for an engine more worthy .

Another good spot to sell this is on the Hydrostream power tour Facebook page. Those guys are Stream addicts, probably help find you a buyer.

my 88 Valero tunnel had the same location crack when I got it never moved was strong. Prior owner had a 10" jack plate, the old Streams were not meant for that much . I put a 6" with my 2.5, it now has a 2.5 XS 2 stroke by third owner in Northern Wi.
