Very cool piece.
I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

Nice, how's it run with the 300 and what speeds are you getting with what prop?

It runs great other than its really sluggish on accceleration, as it starts to plain off all of a sudden it takes off like a rocket, with a 24 pitch Bravo 1 4 blade it will run a flat 70 MPH on GPS about 5600 RPM.

It does have vent holes, I tried different size hole plugs, didnt seem to make any difference. Its just like the motor is to far down in the water with that Gil mount, the motor is about 24" behind the transom and really low in the water on take off, as the boat slowly plains off it starts to pickup a little speed and then all of a sudden it takes off like a rocket. some of those older motors had a low and a high speed circuit in the stator, it almost feels like it is dropping a few cylinders and then all of a sudden they kick in. You cant get at the motor when your going down the lake because it is so far back on the transom. Suggestions welcome.

Considering that motor has eight one barrel carburetors….., I’d start w/a “link and synk”.
Tons of those things and the 6’s screwed up by guys w/a screwdriver that shouldn’t be touching them.
Common is poor idle/hard to start so people advance the throttle linkage stop screw.
That opens the throttle blades which ain’t supposed to be open at idle.
Do that and it will never run right.I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.

You might as well buy this one, then you have a new one along with a little family nostalgia.
