Motor height
1990 Team Shadow, replacing old 5 1/2 inch CMC jackplate with a 10 inch Bobs.
When setting motor height and Looking to go prop shaft even with pad would that be with jackplate all the way down and cavitation plate trimmed parallel with the boat .
So if I have the boat fairly level trim the motor some and set height with jackplate down?
Thanks.

What is the vertical travel of the jackplate? If it was 5”, could you set the range from propshaft 1” above the pad to 4” below?
Besides using the jackplate to fine tune height for going fast, I use it to bury the gearcase a bit during cruising to try to increase the gearcase and prop life.

I believe 7 inches.
I didn't see it on their site but it was on other sellers for this jackplate.
So maybe 2 above with plate up is a good starting point.
I'll measure where the CMC was and
Thanks

10" Bob's has 6" of movement up and down. I'd set it so the prop shaft even with the pad is about 3" on the jackplate. That will allow you to go down 3" for help getting on plane and heavier loads. Assuming we're talking about a hydraulic jackplate here.

I would make sure when you lower the jack all the way down, you can still trim it up without hitting the steering arms on the well or stern. I ended up having to set my motor up a few bolt holes to get full jack and trim travel. If you are going hydraulic, a gauge is money well spent.

Thanks for the advice everyone.
I didn't order the gauge.
I emailed Bob about whether I need to install it before motor installation and they said no.
I have read where some users said their gauges stopped working after just a few years.
$250 for a gauge kit seems expensive, but I may end up doing it in the future.
