    2.5 EFI's sputtering

Something new, 2.5 EFI's 280 hp 7,500 RPM. done over by Diamond Marine. Motors idle and run smooth up to 5,000 + RPM then they start sputtering. Out of the hole their fine. Cruise all day at 4k. Mercury racing 2 cycle @ 30-1, 93 octane with new fuel filters. What gives?

Could be a pile of things. Unless someone here knows some secret sauce about this specific mota you need to verify a few things. Id be looking at fuel pressure for starters it could be the fuel pump going out. If that all checks out then id be moving onto electrical. Spark test, stator test, ecm grounds, grounds in general would be a wise thing to go over now. For the laser stuff iirc Merc has a service bulletin to add a ground to the brain chassis to the block. Maybe applies to yours i dont know much about the digital efi stuff. Others will chime in im sure

Im about to put some load on the motors to try and learn more. My first thought is some of the coils may be starting to break down. Runs well at lower RPM but not high.

Problems on new engines frequently are in the boat. Make sure your fuel system is right. Check to see if you have a anti syphon valve on tank. Check or replace fuel hoses. Monitor primer bulb ensuring it does not collapse at speed.

Loading an engine that is not running properly is not something I would suggest. Your assuming its electrical. It may be but if its fuel you can damage the engine.

First thing I’d do is send the injectors out to somebody reputable to get them checked out. Second I would replace any fuel filters and check the free flowing ability of your fuel pump(s) to pump fuel. If I remember correct you’re looking for a gallon around 45 seconds. I’d do all this before I ran the engines anymore, especially under an excessive load. Once you ensure all this is up to snuff then you can continue with more diagnostic work but this will prevent you from hurting the engines from running lean
