another question. are those power steering lines? cuz too small for hydro steering. and there is a cut off steering cable. another one i am gonna grab has hydro steering, good powerhead, cracked mid section and a stainless prop. i know. prop. means nothing until you find what pitch the boat wants. but it is way easier to calculate based on what boat does with a given prop than to SWAG from scratch. 17 and 21 inch mercruiser props fit this lower unit? if so i have more to try. and is this essentially a merc alpha without the chebby 350 attached to the other end of driveshaft?

that is funny cuz the 2.0 ratio mercruiser is for the itty bitty 4 cyl 120. a mail jeep and fiero engine. even the little 305 uses a 1.65 drive. and big blocks like the 1.36 better than the 1.5 that all the 350's run. OTOH a 350 sounds like it is coming apart above 4k...

Also cross check serial number on the transom bracket against the Welch plug on the block and the build date stamp on the block. On my 2.4/200, the transom bracket is from 1983, BUT the block is a late 1990. Got to be one of the last 2.4/200’s ever made, before the switch to 2.5.

There is a lot of direct interchangeability in these Merc V6’es.

and i started the thread asking about black max stuff cuz i was clueless. thank you all. i am much less clueless now. most of the stuff i found the sellers weren't saying black max. but the pics in the ad had it on the cowls. probably gonna be painted out on any that i run. one more similar question: XR 2-4-6. what years and what is the diff between them? and i am still considering a bigger boat with an 08 175 optimax pro xs. looks like it was never started. but i can't run it. hung on boat but never rigged. and not cheap. all the pumps, compressors and other little pricey stuff on that setup scares the crap out of me. but it comes with a very nice hull...

not for tha ally... that little boat would luv a hard hittin' 200.. a good solid hull, motor, set up, prop and all mechanical junk at its best you'll be in tha 90's easy or real close to it... jus one thing.. ya gotta learn how ta drive it!!!

XR2... 2.0 produced to 1987.. hyped up 150.. a had different carbs and tuner as to a regular 150.. justa LITTLE bit saltier tha tha regular 150..

XR4 150... first and only attempt at a "steel bore" 2.4 motor.. 1987 to 1991.. mostly aimed at tha bass folks because of tha hp limit in tournaments..

XR6 150... 1991 till 2005.. 2.5 (completely different block/crank/pistons) carbureted motor (all tha XR series were carbureted)... is a stout motor for a 150..

Carbs are simple. Float height is critical. Install new needle and seat in each. Be SURE to do proper link & sync afterwards. You’re about to learn a bunch. Have fun!

oh, and stock compression is around 120 psi. That tells the tale for any given mota.

up through '90 they are termed WH followed by a number.. yours may be 20's? 4 gaskets (two triangle shape sort of on tha inside) always replace (all 4) no mater how good they look.. most WH gaskets are all same no mater tha number....not all will have tha number stamped on 'em.. then tha fun begins on how ta identify what they are exactly.............

    '91 ta '95 WMH's
    '96 up WMV's
