Choosing the correct set back jack plate for my boat

Hi, I have a 2004 Velocity 22CC with a 250 yamaha hpdi 20" shaft. The boat came with a CMC 5 1/2" setback jack plate which recently fried! I am looking to replace it and was wondering if i should go with a bob's or atlas and 6" or 8" set back? The boat ran decent with the other set up, just wanted any thoughts on more setback?
    Thanks

Its one of those questions you may get many different opinions on. My suggestions is to not change it with it being a stand up boat. More step back will make boat act lighter. If you were looking for speed and were sitting lower in the boat more set back might have its advantages.

I agree, but I can’t imagine the difference between 5.5, 6 or 8 inches making much noticeable difference on his boat anyway.

If you are planning to increase set back, be sure to check for possible interference between surrounding cables and wires also how much extra "slack" you have in the wiring and hydraulic steering system if so equipped. Also check for possible steering arm & tilt/trim interference. You may also need a prop "tweak" to really see the setback benefit if you are chasing top speed.

As said above it is a can of worms to get another couple mph at best I would imagine.

Pics of it running would help to see where COG is. If it already fly's the nose more set back may not help.

Thanks guys for your feedback, I spoke with Scott at Velocity and with my current setup a 6" bob's is the direction were going.

Get a video of it at full throttle to see the trim of the engine, you want it 90 degrees to the water to maybe one or two degrees tucked in. If it is trimmed out it needs more setback.
