300XS Compressor Water Inlet Hose

I recently purchased a used 300XS for a replacement.
It has a check valve installed in the water line from the adapter plate to the compressor.
What is this for and what is the advantage of having it?

someone installed an inline strainer, maybe to take out the one in the mid to make it easier to service.

I'm not sure that is a fantastic idea. Id go back to the stock strainer personally. The compressor is connected to the tell-tale. No tell-tale = no compressor cooling. Easy.

people that run their boat often in shallow water will do it since it makes it more accessible to clean.
