Question Narco homemade sub found... with outboards?

The Columbian authorities found this sub just floating out there in the ocean. When they boarded it, it had 3 TONS of cocaine and two bodies. It would be interesting to know how they died. My first thought would be carbon monoxide, but that photo appears to show outboards? Is that what it really is? Those subs run with only the bridge above water, and I'd like to know how they managed that without outboards.

Most of those semi-submersibles have ventilation stacks. I don't see any on that one. Even tightly wrapped bricks in that quantity, put off a strong chemical smell.
Dead so close to home ... my money would be on ... lack of breathable air is what did them in...

Going electric .. would drive the price way up. None of them would be able to make the trip ..
But maybe when my aunt becomes my uncle .. these new battery's the libbie's have been saying are just around the corner for the last 25 years .. might make it in three or four overnight stops for charging ...

I read that there were four people aboard, two of which were deceased. The Colombians said there was a fuel leak and the fumes were what probably did them in.
