Solid Mounts
I'm looking for opinions on solid mounts. Billet aluminum vs a composite? Anyone have experience with both or thoughts?

Have no experience with composite but I'm very happy with the Bob's aluminum ones on my 200. Really should be on all motors, they didn't add as much to the NVH as I thought they would.

If you actually need them... a lot of 100 mph boats don't.

Go with aluminum, Mercury has used aluminum for years in Hi Perf stuff.

I had delrin mounts made up for my 4.6 motors and they didn't hold up (I was trying to avoid vibration). Went with alum. from MAD EFI and all is good.

...first person to come up with mercury delrin mounts was scott porta. he walked into our hi-performance offshore shop in 1982, introduced himself & gave me a set of them to install. he also showed me his new invention. his very cool at the time, scissor hydraulic jack plate. made them not for just a single, but for our triple & quad motor offshore race & pleasure boat customers. ordered a triple soon after...

The rubber mounts don't last forever. The stock 3L hi-perf mounts failed at around 200 hours... it drove fine at 75mph but the thing was flopping around when you stepped off the gas.

Back when Mercury actually made racing motors .. they came with solid mounting thru directly bolting the tiller arm to the adapter plate and the lower yoke to the can.
In this day and age of pseudo race motors .. you can whittle up a set of Delrin (or stronger) poly composite rubber~baby~bumper replacements.
Or go with aluminum .. just make sure you coat them with something that will fend off corrosion .. they seem to grow more than rebar enforced concrete, when subjected to water intrusion .. kkppkkPOW
Chaz = wunderin, why did they ever do away with solid mounting...
Ohh, thats right they just spent stupid money on a noise and vibration sensing chamber .. so they can offer the new pusswaa metrosexual model engines ...
