Haven't gotten that far yet. Focusing on internals first. I have a propshaft dyno so numbers will come. High compression at 7000 rpm should get us in the 80-90 range according to the guy doing the flow bench work, California Fred. Fixing the rod ratio is the primary focus because it's the only thing that will allow us to rev higher and that will be critical for making power.

I got a 1L 60 running on MicroSquirt as a proof of concept. I didn't tune it beyond initial crank. I hadn't messed with the project at all until Fred contacted me to team up on it. We intend on transferring what we learn from the 1L to the 3/4L and building a suitable thundercat motor.

I'm switching from MicroSquirt to MaxxECU Mini. So need to take a step backwards still before I can develop a stock tune.

so i bought this 50 big foot. 2006. seller tossed the restrictor plate. so now i have a too-lean motor on my hands. is there any way to cheat this ecu into providing more fuel? maybe injectors that flow 20% more at given pressure or upping fuel pressure? or is the overpriced merc ecu my only option?

I have a 2018 60 that I put a race 60 ecu on. Has lil more power and gained 100 rpms. Thinking about cutting and cleaning the head up next.

I have a bud with a merc racing 60 15'' 4s. He has burnt the thing up twice. I believe the racing pcm's are calibrated more to the WOT end of the power band. He has it on a 13' whaler and cruises at 3500-4000 rpm. I don't think they were meant for this and might run lean in this range.

Did he mention what failed? Blow a hole in a piston/eat a ring?

Both times it cooked the piston top I believe. It's a performance engine meant to be run hard. He wanted a 15'' engine for the whalers 15'' transom.
