I am another victom waiting on a part from Mercury

My 300R just toasted the alternator and Mercury is of course out of stock. Soonest ship date is 28 Feb and we all know how that can continually get pushed out further. Just my luck....hunting season is over and the fish are moving up. Anyone got a got source or in stock 8M0142248 Mercury ALT?

    Venting!!!!

Is it possible to have it rebuilt until a new one can be sourced?

It is still under warranty. Has to be a Mercury OEM part.

Started calling any dealership that sold and serviced Mercury and found one. Had to pay for it out of pocket but should have my boat back by Friday!!!

Out of curiosity, did you check to see if the part # crossed with anything? Quite possible that's an on shelf item at the major parts stores. Is it a Nippon denso?

    Congrats on the find anyways.

Contact DB electrical online. They have decent stuff for a lot less than merc. Might be a good spare and get you going now. I have bought alts from them no probs.

I’m with John and Xstream here…

If you have the skills to do the swap yourself, get yourself the identical, other-branded alternator, swap it in yourself, and swap back again if you need warranty work. And don’t miss out on opportunities to be on the water.

There is a up grade to a 115 amp that is available and on the shelf. If I burn another one up I will go to it. All great advice and I am lucky to be part of the club.

    thank you

I am using a group 31 North Star....also have 3 group 27's for the trolling motor. I had the group 31 tested before I took the boat in. if i ran over 5 miles the motor would drain the battery to the point that I could not start the motor if i shut it down.

    Please explain to me ....

How you have a new Mercury engine ... that needs an alternator.
(actually, I would let them diagnose the issue .. under wty. it's their baby)

You find a Mercury dealer that has one in stock ... they install it, but you have to pay for it out of pocket ... ???

I guess it would be an upgrade as it's a 115 amp unit vs the stock 85? Still not good to have to wait for a part as common as an alt. I'm really on the fence about buying a new 4 stroke. Seeing simple parts failures that are spooking me. I have the funds and can get one. BUT.....This crap is really turning me off.

    <!--StartFragment-->Good morning, Chaz.....

I will do my best to explain.

My 2020 300R engine has 238 Hours on it and is serviced as scheduled per the manual. This is the first mishap that the motor has had, and I run it fairly hard here in the swamps and also have enough modern electronics to play the bass fishing game. Do I think the alternator should have gone out....Hell No!!!! But it did and as with any toy that i have, if it breaks, I fix it. I took it in for warranty (bought 7 years of Platinum warranty) and the shop verified the alt was burnt up and placed a new one on order through Mercury. Mercury came back with an expected ship date of 28 Feb. I am not willing to let my boat sit at the shop for a month if the part even arrives early Mar. Ship date is estimated and not guaranteed. So, I sucked up the cost of the new part to get my boat back. Mercury is willing to try and reimburse if upper management approves it. I am not willing miss a month of fishing. It is worth the cost of the part to me to get back on the water. Me buying the part is all me and not Mercury.

Hope this better explains the situation I was in and what I was willing to do to get my boat back. I really love the motor and If I get another boat, it will have another 300R on the back. i know you are not a fan of them, but we all sacrifice time and money to play with our toys. <!--EndFragment-->

Why does your dealer HAVE to get the part directly from Merc? Why can't they do a dealer-to-dealer transfer if another dealer has the part? Your dealer should be able to send the other dealer the bad alt. to send back to Merc to warranty it. It all sounds crazy to me. I have a 300R and this kind of stuff scares me!
