Let's mount the engine sideways, underwater, and house it in a water resistant plastic cowl. What could go wrong!
Not the warmest reception on that contraption!
Glad you told em!
Team marine service did a youtube video on that thing, after he got uninvited to their release party. Funny chit!

Outdrive Extinction
As I have said several times before.............I/Os will become extinct.
- Boat buidlers don't want em
- Plug n play outboards are easier
- More interior hull space
- Better service / repair access
- Repower changes far better than crawling into a hull hatchway
- Fire hazard reduction (no engine ignition source inside hull)

01-15-2023, 07:11 PM #19I'd rather be competitive w/junk I built in my garage than win w/stuff I bought.
I refuse to allow common sense to interfere w/my boat buying decisions.

So how much would 1200 HP cost using IO's and the weight ?
we know the back of the boat would be wasted, chance of fire goes up.
Another 5 years you'll have a solid state battery down low and small out drives. We have invented the world; WE see

lots of lobby from companies that didnt have any modern 2 stroke dfi tech.
Of course that lobby got the emissions capped before 4 stroke outboards had to have cat convertorsLast edited by powerabout; 01-17-2023 at 07:16 PM.

Every time I se these monster new engines it gets me thinking, get a couple of 600's have Chaz build a couple of 15 inch erector set mid's with a sport master. Put one on my xr02 ant the other on my vortex 21, and if that isn't enough maybe a 400 shot of juice to hit that magic 1000 mark. I wander what gear ratio it would take in those sportys.
Now seriously, to bad they didn't come out with a 15" 400 v8. Maybe in ten years I could afford a used one but I will be too old to drive it.

If you consider scale factor, and scale speed into these new outboards/boats. It really makes the old stuff look pretty good. Big difference between 100mph in a 1200lb 18' or 20' boat vs. 100mph in a 3000lb 26' thru 30' boat.
Some people might say 100mph is a 100mph, but get behind the wheel and see which one pumps more adrenaline.
At least that's how I justify my slow azz 30 or 40 year old junk yard hand me downs, from daddy warbucks.Last edited by OnPad; 01-17-2023 at 01:50 PM.

They are huge. So are the boats that they put them on. I remember back when the V8 OMC's came out everyone thought they were huge too
