Mid Section exhaust reliefs

Basically before 91 you have the open slots/no rubber boot
They are more loud and used on the 80s black max split shell cowls
2.0 2.4
And then in the early 90s-2000 when they made the 2.0 and 2.5,
They used a drop on cowl, with the rubber boot integrated into the lower half of the cowl/skirts
It's not as loud as the 80s version
Few of my engines use the older style mid section housing and a drop on cowl, I cut the skirts short so the holes can breathe

Is it possible to cut open the blocked slots? Or did they change something also behind the slots?

I have seen engines on the river runs that have been drilled out, seems like you might need to slot the wall behind the port side too if you want it to be as close to the oem slotted mid section as possible. See how the oem slots are upwards, u might need to measure to see if drilling holes straight in would go through to the cavity

I have a 1988 with the slots and the clam shell cover, and also a 1994 with the rubber boot and the drop on cover. I like the clamshell because it's easier to work on to get at things easily, but I like how quiet the 1994 is.
