So im not really in the 300hp club yet only messing with the older 2.5s, 225 3.0 - I thought maybe the welsh plug popped out because there is a hole on the upper port side, popped out like some of the serial numbers do, but i happen to find the actual welsh stamped on the lower starboard side - again this is a 1996 3.0 litre 225 maybe similar block to the 300 u have??
And hopefully by now you dont use the mid section serial number for the powerhead serial number, it could be a good comparison as mids can interchange but best to find the powerhead serial

Early 2.4 and 2.5's had serial plug on top. Replacement powerheads have no serial numbers.
