If someone builds Checkmate boats again, and if you bought a new one, I don't think anyone makes new 2 stroke engines in the HP range you would want. If you prefer a 2 stroke, I think you would have to buy a used one.

I have a hard time seeing how Checkmate, regardless of who actually owns it, starts up production into the headwinds of interest rates and recession.

It would be great to see them come back. I think the only shops building new hi-po SOB's seem to be Nordic, Velocity, Progression, and Tuff which has a four year wait for the new 20 model.

At some point there will be demand, unless everyone is happy with Surf boats. Just comes down to whether Checkmate will be ready/available when that happens

Even if there was (and I doubt it) the heavy motors are not really a fit for the smaller Check models. I guess they could go 2400 and up with the 300R

pretty sure the 2100 will be fine with the new 250/300 V8 at 550lbs.
and the 1850,2000 will have no problem with the 200/225 V6

the 2400 could have the 450 on it

There has to be a 2100 out there with a 561 pound 300R on the transom.

Also Battlewagon and Active Thunder is doing their 22 Banshee. Also there is a guy on the checkmate forums who has the molds for some of the older checkmate boats, think he is making a 21 can't remember.

I think there is less than 50 lbs differernce between a 300XS and a 300R. The 450R is of course heavier and so is the 400R. I think the 400R and 450R and similar in weight and there are several 2400 Checkmates with 400R's on them. I believe there was a Mercury employee with a 450R on a 2400 as well.

...i understand and agree with this statement in present times. but isn't it ironic, that arguably, in the 70's & 80's, when checkmate production was at its best, that the interest rates were the highest in history, and there was recession after recession after recession?. weird. food for thought...

That's true but the market for Checkmate style of boats was huge back then. No Tri-toons, no wake boats, no jet skis and very few bass boats. I own a new 2020 model year 2400 / 300R. It might be the only Checkmate on the lake we live on which has thousands of homes. The lake is full of Tri-Toons, wake boats, jet skies, center consoles, bass boats, and lastly larger family cruisers. There are a handful of performance boats like Bajas, tunnel hulls, larger offshore deep V performance boats, but that would be less than 1% of the boats on Lake Keowee.

From what I see, new or used wake/surf boats are almost twice the price of a bowrider outboard Checkmate in either the 21’ / 300R or 24” /450R size.

You are not far off. I was at the Greenville boat show last week. Mostly Tri-toons, wake boats, bass boats and jet skis, with some cruising boats and center consoles. Some wake boats were as low as $175K and when Caldwell Marine built their last Checkmates they were priced around $125K for a 2400 BRX with a 300R, a 450R would add another $30K but a 400HP V10 might only add $10K.
However, most wake boats were closer to $200K plus or minus $20K and many of the better well equipped ones were between $250K and $300K. There was one 32 ft (yes 32 ft!!) wake boat that was over $500K. Now most of the 24ft wake boats were more in the $150K - $200 range. I enjoy our 2400 Pulsare / 300R, because it is mostly my wife and me and we are in our golden years. However, for $80K - $90K I could buy a very nice Tri-toon with 300 HP. Yes it will only do 50 mph, but more comfortable than the Checkmate, if I had a large family and grand kids we could fit everyone on and still pull the kids tubing, nice to be able to walk around if you are out on the lake for several hours. I can see whey they sell and if I live long enough, it will likely be my next and last boat.

BOAT has always been an acronym. Guess it should be spelled BOAHT now.
