    I want this!

W/o having it running though, doubt he’ll get half the asking price for it.

Back in the ‘70’s (when I was running kneel down) Merc came out w/the 25 SS 2 banger which was a nice motor but some of the fast guys were popping them and discovered they had chrome bores which meant expensive to rebuild.

Since most of us were broke Dick red necks, someone mounted a 25 hp OMC powerhead to the Merc mid/race case and started spanking the Mercs!

They we’re only allowed to run in the “Mod” division where pipes were allowed so once they got the right chamber/tuning they got really fast!

If you look close, you’ll see they have the pipe set up to slide which means they can alter the “tuned length” for RPM.

Long for torque through turns then “pull it” out of turn which shortens it and moves power peak up the power band.
    Pretty cool to see.

You can see the rooster tails drop when they pull the pipe!

Always wanted to race one but we’re too new/expensive for me back then.

These ended being the fastest 2 bangers in Stock or Mod!

    Kilo record is 79 mph.
Pretty cool for a 10’ hydro!

    My bad.

Its a 45 SS powerhead and w/180 psi compression so it’s a 100+ mph motor!

Didnt think it looked like a 25 powerhead.

Don’t think I could own it w/o having something to put it on and I’m too fat to fit in anything it would work on !

Not to be insulting, but it's not a 100mph motor on any boat. Probably 90-ish from my experience running mod. Pretty sure the lower unit is the first generation of units by Sid Bass. I did see one iteration of a 45 that probably did break 100, but the owner hit a rough spot and had to sell the rig. Subsiquent owners did not recognize the potential of the combination and split it up and neither piece ran as fast again.

The inventor of the 25ss class with OMC powerheads on Merc racing lower units was Tom Glock of NJ. A great guy and great friend.

    Yeah, I’ve heard.

I stopped checking your “experience” w/my boat racing friends yrs ago.
