WH46 float color, alcohol safe?

Picked up some pristine WH46's for my 2.4/200 off ebay. I'm still disassembling and cleaning them just to be sure, while I have the intake off doing Chris Carson reeds anyway. Appears to be a bit of reiddish/pinkinsh tinge as if the previous owner was religious about Sta-Bil.

I don't know if there is a color coding by year for floats that indicates they are safe for today's alcohol fuels, but this is what the look like:


The floats look great, but if they are not alcohol-safe I will replace them.

It occurs to me that WH-46's came around during the alcohol era so they are probably safe by default, but that would be a guess.

I have found the needles with red tips do better than the black ones though. Had the black ones stick

Silver coated ones that are red underneath are the idea ones, not sure what they are made of.

Doesn’t show to well in the pic, but mine are nice and red. And nice and sharp and straight, not deformed. Judging them as healthy.

I was going to bring up the same thing about the needles and seats. I also run the red ones with the silver needle. Don’t run cheap gasket sets from China. Use the better ones.

I presume Sierra gaskets are OK? I usually go with Promarine, but they don't seem to have a kit with just gaskets. Only full blown kits with needle and seat, which I don't need.

Say, a quick question... mercruiserparts.com shows the same gasket set for the V150 as the V200. Is it possible that the carbs from both share the same bore diameter? Or maybe the gaskets are slightly oversized to accommodate the bore of the 2.4/200, while being only slightly big for the 2.0/150, and not so big as to mess anything up?

That sounds right. I would not expect for them to have a different gasket set for a 150 versus a 200.

WH series carb kits are all the same for all the WH carbs. Yes, Sierra are fine. Just stay away from the no name brands that are super cheap. That rubber gasket material degrades very vast and you will have issues.
