Mercury V10 and Sportmaster LU
Hi!
I hope you all are well
I see the new V10 400R from Mercury. Do you know if the engine will be offered with a Sportmaster sometime?
Cheers Toffen

Toffee is king of the repower- I have only had 3 engines on my SS2000. It would be fun to see a first hand account of the V10

Hi!
He he, just got that V8 450R and it almost wreck my wallet ! But I think I will go for a V10 400R when it comes - and my warranty of the 450R has expired. It will be interesting to see how they solve the Sportmaster gear case. If it will be same diameter as the Sportmaster I have now.
PS ! What do you think about the torque specs V10 400 vs V8 450R?

Has the torque figure been published? My guess is 390 ftlb, so it will be short of the 425 ftlb of the 450.

Racing will almost certainly get there hands on it if they haven't already, to replace the existing 400R and maybe add another option. The biggest question is will it have a true performance mid, or the AMS like the 450? Hopefully an HD mid.

Hey Toffen, finally got the torque figures.
The 400R on CARB testing junk fuel made 390 hp and 324 ftlb. It takes 91 octane to make 400 hp. That's an advantage of the new 5.7...it makes it's power on 87.
The 5.7 liter 400M is 399 hp and 380 ftlb.
The 5.7 liter 400R is 414 hp and 380 ftlb.
For comparison, the 450R is 450 hp and 425 ftlb.
I guess my estimate of 390 ftlb was pretty close.
