Post NEW ARTICLE - A look at the Upper Midwest Powerboat Association.

    Hi All,

There's a new article on the home page, which details the Upper Midwest Powerboat Association. There are also many photos with the article.

It's at the top of the home page at www.screamandfly.com. The link to the article is here:
Scream And Fly Magazine - Dedicated To Growing Our Sport: The Upper Midwest Powerboat Association

I hope you all find it interesting. I also wanted to thank Brett Seubert for his time in familiarizing me with their great organization.

    Greg

    Greg -

This is a group of people who figured out a way to keep on going with what they had and have fun. WITHOUT the APBA. Incidentally, the APBA's long term plan is to move to FL from Detroit. It's my opinion that one lawyer who was a board member of the APBA who kept asking the "what if" safety questions ultimately destroyed the APBA into what it is today? Take a look at Mercury's four stroke APX and APR programs. The APBA was completely bypassed.

UMPBA is a great group of racers, fans, volunteers, all of that. Never has so much fun in 2 days that you do at one of these events! And no weighing boats, no engine requirements, just don't sandbag and don't break out of your class on MPH. Super easy to get into this club racing without all the BS.

First it was helmet types (Full cover etc)
Then it was life jacket brands
    Then reinforced cockpits
    Then rear view mirrors
    Then breakaway pickle forks
Then boats had to be nose up sinkable
Then vents for nose up sinking
Then collision proof structure on cockpit back.
Then collision proof structure on cockpit sides
    Then roll cages for trihulls
    Then cockpit helmet clearance
    Then belt attachment
Then "risk managers" for all race events (liability scapegoats)
Then lifejacket and helmet age certification
    Then radio communication
Then external kill switch for rescue.
Finally, mandatory air supply systems for safety cockpits.

No wonder a lot of racers quit?
