Spinning in and spinning out can make a difference. Never had an RPM problem, but my props for the twins are blue printed, balanced, etc.

After a searching and fearless moral inventory of myself .. I have to admit there is tiny bit of ... "dirty ole man" in my mental make-up.
Then they "all" call me "dad" .. Ohh well, maybe in the next life ...

I recall early non shifting gearcases turning a couple hundred more R's then right. That was because a gear was removed and it had less rotating drag.
I don't buy shifting cases being uneven. There is something else unbalanced.Jim

I went ahead and purchased an analog to nmea2000 module, i honestly didn't realize how ridiculously cheap they are. I've already got my data backbone ran all the way back there for my fuel flow sensors anyway, should be an easy way to verify my tach's before I do anything else. Plus it will be nice to have a number of other signals on my Garmin display if i choose to wire them.

Well it was a bad stator... a 2 year old OEM mercury stator with about 80 hours of use. I checked and the harness tests good, Who knows if this stator was ever any good, but of 6 cylinders i had 4 at spec (1100ohm), one double spec, and one open. Which would explain a 300rpm reduction vs the right motor.
lesson learned, don't buy new old stock parts. That stator could have been 10 years old before I bought it. The right motor got a new one from amazon, the left ended up with a NOS from ebay. I think I saved 50 bucks, now its gone up from $332 to $440! lol

Well that definitely fixed it. Got 64.1mph on the limiter, 6 or maybe 6100 rpms each, whatever the computer stops them at(the end of my tachometers range). Could probably get another pitch out of them with all 12 firing.
