    Mercury Racing Optimax 250XS Mechanic

    Greetings Fellow Speed Junkies,

I have a Mercury Racing Optimax 250XS which is only running on 5 cylinders. I've tried everything recommended here, but still cant get it to fly on all 6 for any length of time. Can anyone please recommend a good mechanic in New England?

    Thanks!

    Jim

I replaced all my cdm coils because I kept taking out number 6 piston , four times. A gentleman in Florida told me to do this because when one of the cdm’s messes up it can advance the timing and take the top off the piston. New cdm’s and it’s working perfect now for two years. Before this I could not get 2 or 3 Hours out of a rebuild.

It is very possible, that if powerhead, was installed on Drive shaft hsg. & Exhaust adaptor. Without following mercury,s new torque sequence. That you warped the engine block, on # 6.
I have done this, it,s real. I always over bore every cyl. .002 or .003 thousandths oversise. I have done this on 10 motors with no problem.
