My roof is 19 years old and will not get covered. All insurance here in Florida are evidently dropping coverage and claims on roofs that that had been around from Hurricane Charley.
I’m at my brother’s place now in Estero since they have power and water. Driving back up to Cape Coral today to check on the house.
I hope all of you are doing relatively okay. My thoughts are with all of you.

I really hope there’s no truth in this:

I think that is "word salad". It is all they know how to do. Any trace of common sense eludes them.

what makes you think that? has that happened in the past?

Americans are some of the most resilient people on the planet. We are also some of the most forgetful people on the planet. Two years from now things will be rebuilt and it will be a distant story to most. I wouldn't judge anyone who has lost everything in a storm like this for re-locating, I just wish people would do like we have in everyone of these things and leave "you are NOT going to stop it" and there is no guaranteed path of destruction. $50.00 worth the fuel would have put people out of harms way (I will never understand the benefit in putting your family through something like this)-I hope we can all learn from this catastrophic event.

What does the age of your roof matter?
I know after hurricane Laura a lot of people had to hire lawyers to go after the insurance co.

Wind rating for roofing is based on how it's attached. Nothing is hurricane proof. Even cast concrete tile roofing.

...cast concrete flat tile roofs are put down with ONLY two part a/b foam these days. same with spanish S tiles. after they are installed, every roof is pull tested in about 40 different spots and recorded on a location drawing of your roof. its code. i have a new roof. i also have all new horizontal impact windows & doors. best money i ever spent. the good thing about impact windows is, you can stand there & watch the storm go by. the bad thing about impact windows is, you can stand there & watch the storm go by...
