Ive used a ton of these in consumer motas but the bearings are replaceable which i did on all of them ,moma merc thinks they are ok but i also used metal cage bearing on my go faster stuff even though quite a few Promaxs i tore down came with these in them

I did a service rebuild on a 260 recently and it had these in it. Motor had 100 hr or so on it since it was rebuilt and the bearings seemed fine. I don't know how they last, but they do.

Im guessing sloppy bores and these bearings = trouble. Too much rod movement would probably take them out

I have seen far more plastic caged than metal caged. I used metal on screamers but plastic on nearly everything else with very good results. To each their own I guess.

Theres always the must do mods for boats/cars/trucks when 99% of the time they are probably not required. There is also the blame the parts for shoddy workmanship types who get a lot of these mod rumors started lol. As for me? I have not enough experience Im a newb to the V6 merc so I'm following along the suggested mods

Well the
Reciprocating wt is less?? But I have found Aluminum bolts holding X3 BMW motor mounts to the block which break and cost you a 500 dollar water pump and the bolts cost 14& each !! Or go to ACE 50 each grade 5 point is it’s a Profit margin for mercury but we’re playing the risk game

The only bearing ive ever eaten which broke the crank in the process was steel caged. And every donor motor ive torn down with decades of water time had plastic cage bearings and not a single one was damaged. Some motors had oil pump failure and extreme overheat. Some melted and stuck a slug. Bearings were all normal. And i still put steel cages in every one i assemble. Hmmm. Makes you wonder when you think about it lol.
