21' Sanger Alley Cat setup questions.

Have a 1983 21' Sanger alley cat, looking for recommendations for a prop that will get me alot of bow lift. Has approx 7" of setback, with a hydraulic jack plate. Motor is a nizpro tuned 332hp yamaha vmax sho. @ 2000' elevation this weekend the boat ran 74mph on GPS with a 26 fury @5600 rpm. Also ran a 24" bravo 1 xs it would only turn 5700 rpm @ 66mph.

I tried raising the jackplate approx 2" and it actually performed worse than the motor being all the way down. The boat pulls very hard until it airs up and then seems to only be able to pull another few mph. Feels like when it airs up it sets the nose down and stops all acceleration.

I typically run it on a rough lake in Denver so would like opinions on props or who to have modify my one of my current props for maximum bow lift. Click image for larger version.

I would start with a Pro-ET and see what it does. It will most likely take some speed to air that hull up and a thru hub will work against you with the prop lifting the transom at low speeds. You need to build enough speed to carry the bow with air. The only experience I have with an alley cat was a 23 with twins and it took positive trim to make it fly but we were very limited on propeller choices back then.

You say you can only turn a 26 5600? seem like that motor needs some help. where did that 335 hp come from? something not right imo.

I feel your pain trying to get decent performance at high altitude.

You mentioned speeds at a 2000' elevation lake. So that wasn't in Denver? Huge performance hit at 5000+' verses 2000'.

I sent my 24 bravo one xs out to be worked for maximum lift. Hopefully I am able to get some extra trim out of it so it'll carry the nose and Pick up some extra speed.

Yes it would only spin the 26 fury to 5600 rpm @ 74 mph. When the boat fully airs up it sets the nose down stops accelerating.

I live in Denver but it's tough to run fast at my local lake because all of the surf boats. So I took it to Nebraska at a lake my dad lives by that's right at 2,000' elevation. Air temp was around 88 and humidity was around 60% at his house so I know the engine has more power on the table when it cools down.

Was told the hull design is the problem with my boat. The sponsors stick out approx 6" past the transom. So the boat is very stable when it airs up but doesn't allow the nose to fly enough for better top speed. I would still like to try a pro et style prop and see how the boat performs with more bow lift and less stern lift.
