    Trim Switch DTS Panel Mount

    Hi Guys

    What are the options?
Have a Down Trim Button in the Control Handle that is faulty.
Ideally looking to change the Button Assembly.
But Mercury only Supply the complete handle
892984A01 is the Part Number for the complete Control Box
    892985A04 Handle

Finding a button for a DTS handle assembly may be tricky. Mercury controls handles (DTS and manual) have been out-sourced to South Korea (LG?). See if the handle bezel can even be disassembled / split. If it is put together with hidden snaps or solvent cement, you are out of luck and that's just to get access the button. Next problem would be to find a button. All said and done, your journey may take you back to buying a handle? $474 (USF) for a new handle?! Try disconnecting the handle wire connector and jumping the down trim circuit. Maybe its not the rocker switch? Also confirm that the rocker switch is defective by a continuity check.

You can get into the handle, even opening the switch is not that hard. Has those diaphragm type switches that are on PCB boards. This does actually work when it is all apart and you can push in the correct spot to make the connection, but when it is all together, it will not work, tried adding a spacer inside to push a bit better and that worked for a while, until it decided that there was too much pressure and would trim down constantly.
May just wire in an external indicator stalk type trim switch attached to the steering wheel.

I had an older die cast MerControl and wanted a trim switch mounted on the throttle handle (just like todays handles?). Drilled a hole in the aluminum throttle arm and mounted a momentary toggle switch to the arm and re-routed the trim wires and zip tied the wires to the arm. Kinda ugly but totally functional. This setup was done in the early eighties and still works today. $8 toggle vs a $474 plastic arm? Go figure. Can you swap out that switch for an aftermarket rocker switch the same size and get rid of the PCB diaphragms?
