    My battery let me down

It was flat calm today, which is unusual, and I had no urgent tasks for the afternoon. I thought it was a perfect time to string out my SS2000/200 XS, but my battery let me down. It will turn the motor over, but not fast enough to start.

It’s too late in the season to buy a new battery. I will winterize the family ski boat and then use the battery from that boat for the remaining 3 weeks of my season.

Sucks, sorry to hear. Hold tight, there might be another day up there to run. Look into EarthX batteries. I never have my motorcycles on tenders anymore, and they crank every time. Great batteries. They have protection where they cut out if voltage gets too low, so theyre safer too.

That's a good?, I'm not sure if it is the newer 4 strokes or older motors, I was told that they can be to hot turning them over, this is just words I have had 2 people tell me on there new 4 strokes, as I honestly have not ran a lithium cranking battery, I know several guys that race get motorcycle batteries to lose the extra weight if they are not running all kinds of electronics, I hope someone that has tried lithium cranking puts there 2 cents in

I put a new battery in (from the family J-Craft ski boat) and it did not start. Then I connected the old (freshly charged) battery with jumper cables to the old battery and it started. Subsequent starts were OK today.

I will try it again next week, weather permitting. It goes into storage next weekend.

If you go over to the Bass Boat Central forum, you can read that Mercury has approved lithium cranking batteries last week of most of the V8 4S engines but not the "R" engines.

I know some one who has run a lithium on their 300xs this whole season with out a issue and he loves it. I am going to give it a shot in mine as well as I would like to shed 40lbs.

Two days ago I got the 200XS to start with a second battery as a jumper. Today it would not start on one new battery again, after being left on a solar powered trickle charger.

Things got worse. Now all the boat electrics are dead. The battery reads 12+ volts, as does the trickle charger. It might be the battery cut off switch that I had installed last year. I can’t think what else would kill all power.

Its a coincidence to have two electrical issues at once, or they are somehow related…
