    17 vector

    Hey guys
I知 putting together a complete rebuilt with composite 17 vector and looking at a bobs Jack plate for my 2.5 15 inch with sportmaster lower . Any recommendations on set back 4-6 inch . I ve read articles that having the motor as close as possible to transom was best for overall performance . Should I forget the lift and bolt directly to boat . All I知 intrested in is going fast , will never pull ski or slide
    thanks for the advice

Captain insano has a vector built just like this. Im pretty sure theres no jack but a 15” offshore mid and center steer. He seems to love it.

+1 for what Lake said. Hopefully the Capt. will pop on this thread, but I do believe his is bolted to the transom. I think the offshore mids have a 2" set back built in.

Lynn's (Insano) setup is not necessarily for everyone. With decades of experience I'm sure he was looking to do something very specific. A more "generic" setup would be fine in this case, with the standard 2-5" setback most people prefer. This will leave plenty of room for experimenting and testing until you find what works for you.

There are no cut and dried answers for individual components, setups are ALWAYS a combination of engine height, setback, gearcase and prop. Change any one and it affects the others.

there is never going to be one best way to set up your boat as said above

im running a very lightweight vector and have a 4" plate. it handles very nice for the top end but when it comes to cruising speeds I think less would be more as it loves to just hop and porpoise.

the problem with mounting your motor straight to the transom is that you can't really dial in your motor height without redrilling
